Walking Again

Well, I'm back at it again! Walking that is. After a long, unjustified, no reason at all pause, I'm back on my second favorite fitness activity (with soccer being number one of course).

My regular routine is a 5-mile walk daily (except for Sunday, my rest day). This activity usually takes me about an hour to accomplish. While walking, I work mentally on my personal projects and ideas, while listening to music. Walking, combined with music, is a great brain stimulant for me. It's like my brain is free to think beyond the normal.

I started walking as a way to control my weight. Working in an office environment for a very long period can take a toll on the body. Luckily, I have no issue with having control, determination, and discipline to stick to the plan. Last year, I dropped more than 12 to 15 pounds just by walking alone.

This time, I will combine walking with intermittent fasting and my morning/evening lemon/cucumber/ginger roots water cocktail to expedite the weight loss process. My goal is to drop 30 pounds in less than two months. I think it's doable.

Tech & Apps - While walking, I use the MapMyWalk app and my Samsung Watch tracker function to keep track of all my fitness stats. For music, I have a built playlist on my Spotify account that is full of Afrobeat songs that can make you walk for miles and miles without noticing.

Benefits of Walking - There are lots of benefits associated with walking. Here are some benefits that I found online associated with regular brisk walking:

  • Maintain a healthy weight and lose body fat.
  • Prevent or manage various conditions, including heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure, cancer, and type 2 diabetes.
  • Improve cardiovascular fitness.
  • Strengthen your bones and muscles.
  • Improve muscle endurance.

Other than the physical benefits cited above, walking brings me joy, peace, and the feeling of being close to nature, enjoying nice fresh air under the sun. It's a great stress reliever that works for me all the time.

I would recommend that you give it a try.
